I’m considering swapping your ASRock B450M-HDV R 4.0 to an MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX for extra performance. I need to check if it’s suitable for heavy gaming and if it will work well with my Ryzen 5 2600, 8x2 3200mhz RAM, and the RX570 graphics card. I’d appreciate any advice on balancing CPU and GPU performance while getting good value.

Reckon I should get a b550 won’t they be more expensive? Or just wait for the price drop of the b450s?

B550 is supported for the latest Ryzen models, but it's worth noting that AMD has stopped supporting B450 now that 3 generation is no longer available.

I’m unlikely to upgrade my CPU beyond the 4th generation, though it’s worth watching the price of the B550 models.

Upgrades beyond the fourth generation are limited to AM4, and likely not possible for the third generation as well.

I previously owned a comparable tier board (Gigabyte B350M DS3H) that faced issues with high overclocking loads. On a 2600 at 4.1GHz it overheated quickly and needed direct VRM cooling. For a budget overclocker, the B450M Pro4 lineup would be a better fit. Mobo chips shouldn't impact GPU overclocking performance, so that won't be a major concern.
