MSI B450 Tomahawk supports SATA ports but may restrict 3 GPU slots.
I was checking for a new GPU and noticed those side SATA ports on my motherboard might limit the size if I upgrade. I found another post mentioning the same problem with a B450, where the new GPU didn’t fit because of these ports. I’m wondering if others have faced similar issues to confirm it’s common or if I’ll need to replace the board later. It looks like some boards have ports in the same area that could affect larger GPUs, so it might be worth considering. Also, someone suggested a riser cable, but I doubt it would work in my 4000d airflow setup.
The stacked SATA layout doesn’t seem to be an issue for mounting a GPU, but the PCI-e riser cable isn’t fitting in the 4000D. It worked in the 4000X, so the problem lies elsewhere.
It will prevent triple fan GPU operation when there aren't enough slots. Apologies for being too detailed.
I don't have the exact same setup, but I own an Asus Prime B660M-A with Wi-Fi, and the SATA connections are positioned identically to yours. Your case is ATX-sized while mine is M-ATX, making it smaller. My graphics card is an Asus TUF RX 6800 XT OC—it's quite large and bulky, its length surpasses the board width, yet the SATA port works perfectly, located behind the GPU. You can see the cable clearly.
I understand. I also have a B450m mortar max experiencing the same issue.
I can't physically capture an image or look down at hardware components. However, I can describe what to look for if you're inspecting the back of the GPU and SATA ports.
I ask you to lend me your GPU so I can check compatibility. That’s the only thing.
