You can technically do it, but each channel will be dimmed, keeping dual-channel operation without extra bandwidth. Remember that four sticks put more strain on the memory controller, so running all four at the same speed might not be possible compared to two sticks.

you'll be able to operate it on dual channel and dual rank configurations, not quad channel. as noted by @TofuHaroto, adding more memory ranks increases the load on your IMC, which could limit your maximum performance. Based on the motherboard's RAM layout, sometimes a 2x16GB setup works better than 4x8GB, even though both are dual-rank dual-channel setups—currently most sticks use dual-rank 8GB modules. Unless you find 16GB modules with dual-rank capabilities, it will likely be single rank. If you already have a 2x8GB configuration, consider adding another 2x8GB and possibly lowering the frequency slightly. You can adjust timing to offset latency loss, but data throughput will still decrease. Not all applications need high bandwidth (games are an exception), so you might notice almost no impact.

Hey team, just checking if I got this right. I had a B450 Tomahawk Max with two Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz cards, each 8GB. They worked fine at that speed before. Then I upgraded to four 8GB RAM sticks, same setup, and everything ran okay. But someone mentioned the Tomahawk couldn’t handle four chips at 3600MHz. So I lowered it down to 2133MHz. I tried putting all four in at once, but after about half an hour my PC would shut down, forcing a full BIOS reset before I could boot up again. From what I heard here, that’s not recommended. It seems safer to stick with two 8GB sticks at 3600MHz instead of four at a lower frequency.

I'm using a B450 TOMAHAWK MAX II with a Gen3 Ryzen 5 3600. I've successfully run 4x8GB RAM (Corsair Vengeance PRO RGB) at full speed of 3200Hz without any problems. Please see the link below; it looks like newer Ryzen models handle higher clock speeds better now, even though my setup can still work.
