MSI B150 and overclock
MSI B150 and overclock
Everyone understands that b150 chipsets can't be overclocked, yet this motherboard includes chipsets like b150 and h170 in its manual. The guide mentions an overclock zone on the BIOS, but can this board handle an i7 6700k?
The bclk frequency can only be adjusted, not the multiplier, but this is possible. It's not the ideal choice, and I strongly suggest using a z170 board with good overclocking capabilities and a 6700k clock speed instead. Getting the K chip would be quite pointless in this case.
The bclk frequency can only be adjusted within certain limits, and while it's possible, it's not ideal. A better option would be a z170 board with strong overclocking capabilities and a 6700k clock speed. Getting the K chip wouldn't be worthwhile in this case.

You'll face restrictions, and you can only adjust the bclk frequency, not the multiplier. It's possible but not ideal. I strongly suggest using a z170 board with strong OC capabilities and a 6700k clock speed instead of the K chip. This processor runs at 4 ghz, so it should work at 4.2 or 4.3 on this board.
Technically yes, your multiplier will likely be fixed at x42 with a 4.2 turbo boost. You'd need to adjust the bclk from 100MHz to around 105MHz, provided you have the appropriate BIOS version. Be mindful of potential issues during this process.
There isn't just a board labeled that, though. It's the general term, not the specific model.

Execute CpuZ to identify your board model. Refer to my previous message about overclocking.
