Hey everyone,
When I started using MSI Afterburner (to try overclocking the GPU), interacting with it—like clicking on settings—caused my PC to freeze completely, and I had to reset everything. Even after reinstalling, nothing worked. I downloaded the latest version but still can't find a solution online. My system runs Windows 10 with these specs: i5 4690k (3.5Ghz), MSI R9 390, Kingston HyperX 16GB RAM at 1886Mhz, and MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Mobo. I’m unsure why this happens and really need help since I’m trying to overclock. Thanks in advance!

Have you explored previous releases of msi afterburner? If the issue continues, it may stem from a clash between AMD Radeon configurations and afterburner settings. Beyond that, I don’t have specific solutions, just general observations. What kind of freezing are we referring to here?

Please let me know if you've used previous versions of msi afterburner. If the issue continues, it might be a clash between AMD Radeon configurations and afterburner settings. Other than that, I don't have specific solutions. Are we discussing general freezing behavior? I'll test with an older version myself. Thank you for your response!

So it's basically a complete crash. If you're not aiming to boost your card beyond its limits, just tweak the controls in the AMD Radeon menu—specifically the gaming tab and overall settings.

I'm experiencing the same issue with MSI Afterburner freezing the image and preventing the whole PC from functioning even when using strg+alt delete to terminate the task. It only works when I restart it. I haven't overclocked my card, and it operates smoothly with other applications and games. The problem occurs sporadically, mainly during certain MSI program launches—such as when starting the MSIA OSD/RTSS or configuring a custom phan diagram—and occasionally at other times. My system runs on Windows 10 with a Radeon R9 390X GPU, an i7-4770S CPU with turbo boost, 16GB RAM, a 750W quiet power supply in the 80+ Bronze category, and an Asus Rock Z87 Pro3 motherboard. I also have two SSDs (120GB) and a 1TB Western Digital hard drive.

I know this is old, but having this problem too, which is a shame because I really like having afterburner for the on screen monitor, fan control, and screenshotting features, but even with multiple drivers and a couple different afterburner versions cleanly installed I get a crash.
