msi 970 overclocking?
msi 970 overclocking?
I was curious about whether it was worthwhile to overclock my MSI GTX 970. I'm unsure if it would really improve performance and wanted advice on the best settings to try. My build details are here: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/z46XsY
Like any OC, proceed gradually, increase frequency until it fails, then introduce a bit more voltage to observe the effect. Keep an eye on temperatures – it's important to note that excessive voltage can still harm the card despite these steps.
I suggest proceeding without hesitation. The card will likely crash and stop before sustaining harm, and it should stabilize after the settings are restored. Today it's much safer to avoid overclocking modern cards, as the risk of lasting damage is low.
Like with any OC, proceed gradually, increase frequency until it fails, then adjust voltage slightly and observe the effect. Keep an eye on temperatures – it's true you can harm a card if you overdo it with excessive voltage.
I should have been more precise... Simply increasing the clock speed rarely harms a modern card. Changing the voltage might cause issues.
I probably haven't encountered many users altering voltages for graphics cards before. I typically set the clock speed to its maximum with the standard voltage and consider it sufficient.
