Hi! For your FX-8320 setup, both MSI 970 Gaming and Gigabyte GA-970-Gaming are solid choices. The MSI model often offers better overclocking potential, while the Gigabyte version is known for reliability. Since you can get them cheap, consider what features matter most—cooling, stability, and compatibility.
Are you certain? The Gigabyte GA-970-Gaming came out toward the end of the FX / AM3+ era, yet it features a 4+1 VRM setup. The MSi 970 Gaming has a configuration of 3(x2) + 2 VRM, employing double buffers on the CPU phases to achieve a total of "6" plus 2.
Absolutely, that sounds like a solid upgrade. 4+1 VRM FX OC is definitely worth considering.
Thanks, ShrimpBrime. I appreciate your advice. Just to clarify: I have a Gigabyte GA-970-Gaming motherboard and another SLI version. The second one has been reviewed by experts and is considered excellent. For the first, I’m not sure but I’ll go with your opinion. Thanks!
Gigabyte has consistently stood out for a long time. MSI's AM2 and AM3 lines have often fallen short. Much of what I've learned comes from overclocking discussions, especially the ones I regularly join. Beyond my own trials, around 40 AM2/3 chips I've pushed on different boards have added a solid amount of insight. @Vishera What kind of current protection does this board have? It seems similar to the M5A78L, which I boosted to 2.0v and above...?
