The setup process has been challenging. My PC was built in January, and despite a smooth build, installing Windows 8 took nearly two hours due to boot configuration issues. I tried selecting the correct optical drive, saving BIOS settings, but still couldn't boot from them. Later, when wanting to run Linux on a live USB, the same problem occurred—only the SSD loaded. I also need SLI support and am considering an MSI Z97-G55 upgrade. There was a mention in a video about a previous upgrade from P55 to X79 still working with Windows, which gives me hope. I’m unsure if I should reinstall Windows or just switch to Windows 10. I’ve read that the OEM version of Windows 8 can be transferred, but I’m not sure how to do it properly. Would deactivating the product key and installing on another board work, or should I contact Microsoft for reactivation? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Windows 10 isn't fully prepared yet. It's not even available in RC. Consider using Windows 8.1—it's a free upgrade from the store. You might need to call for activation, but it's handled automatically. Don't let fear of phone calls hold you back; they can follow you later if you stay this way.

I already have 8.1, but I didn’t say it. I’ll attempt to improve and make a few calls then.

It's possible you need to enable legacy boot to access the DVD or USB drive. Reinstalling Windows on a laptop has caused similar issues before.
