Moving from Intel to Ryzen
Moving from Intel to Ryzen
Hello everyone, I'm an experienced Intel user now transitioning to a Ryzen 7 3700X. My tasks include Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and some light 3D rendering. My setup features an i5 6500, 32 GB RAM, a Zotac GTX 1060 Mini, and an NVMe M.2 drive. Performance is solid when using one app at a time, but switching between multiple applications and moving around is challenging for the i5. I'm curious if upgrading to the 3700X with an Asus TUF Gaming B550M-Plus would suit my workflow better. My second choice is an i7 8700 (non-K). I have no alternative—this is what my boss has offered. Thanks for your assistance.
When the i7-8700 is your sole choice and you're eager to avoid Zen 3, proceed with confidence. Expect noticeable gains in performance, especially during audio editing and 3D visualization tasks. Plan for a complete Windows reinstall after upgrading.
I value your fast responses a lot. Still, my boss chose to stick with Intel. Here’s what he recommended: a Pro: i7 10700K Mobo: Asus ROG STRIX B460-G Gaming (no overclocking). Cooler: Please recommend an air cooler suitable for the 10700K at its maximum TDP. Casing: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L. Everything else will stay the same from your previous setup. Kindly share your thoughts.
