I've been using a Logitech G5 mouse for nearly two decades, and I believe the button pad is nearing its limit because it feels extremely thin.
I bought a steel series rival 3 and connected it, which triggered a message saying new hardware was detected.
After opening a browser, something unusual occurred.
Within about five minutes, the mouse cursor simply froze on the screen.
I used the same USB as before, but I had to switch back to my old mouse to shut down the PC, since I didn’t want to perform a hard shutdown using the power button.
I tested it multiple times on both USB 2 and 3, but the issue persisted.
There were no driver updates available, yet my reliability monitor indicated that a driver was installed.
I’m confused about why this happened. I received a refund and now have a Logitech G502 or Logitech G502 as potential replacements.
What are the chances this will happen again?
I also have locking finger issues, so I won’t be programming the buttons. Would I still need to download software for my chosen mouse?

It seems the steel series updated its firmware and restarted the mouse during shutdown, causing the update to fail and rendering the mouse unusable. Typically, no further software is required, particularly if you avoid modifying the buttons or altering the RGB lights.

So perhaps waiting a little longer would have helped the mouse pointer?

mice today install software from a small storage area inside the mice. If this software has an update, it might have been better to wait. Usually you'd have been asked if you wanted to update it. It could just be a faulty mouse, maybe yours. Personally, I would pick the razer cobra because of the price. Logitech should also be great.
