Hello, I'm dealing with an issue where my keyboard and mouse aren't functioning properly when connected via the USB port on my motherboard. The Asrock Pro4 board seems to have problems registering key presses, especially during gaming sessions where I rely heavily on WASD. A keyboard checker tool confirmed occasional registration issues. For the wireless mouse, it stops responding when plugged into the same USB port, but works fine when connected to the case. My PC and monitor are powered through a UPS, and I have a Ryzen 5 3600 processor with a GTX1650 Super GPU. I'm sharing a video (VID_20200907_194711_mp4) that illustrates the mouse behavior. What about drivers and BIOS? Have you attempted/tried to update the drivers for your motherboard or does the BIOS on your motherboard short a BIOS update or two? You say the keyboard/mouse work better when plugged into a case port but fall short when plugged into a mobo port. That's sort of backwards when thinking about it because you would think things would work better when plugged directly into the mobo and not the case. But if you look at the guts of the machine, the case ports are plugged into the mobo through the use of a cable To tackle this situation, the first thing I would do would be to turn the machine off, open it up and double check all my cables to the mobo were firmly inserted into the proper connections on the mobo. Don't press too hard and run the risk of damage, just firmly press the cable connection to make sure it's good to go. Having done that, my next step would be to make sure that all my motherboard drivers were up to date. That would be pretty much the end of the road with the exception of the BIOS but that is a last resort. Let's just check the connections and stuff first. Good Luck Life is better when it's fun. I check the BIOS for the motherboard and there are updates, but it seems written in a way that warns against updating the AMD CPU unless there are issues. Now I understand my problem is real, but I’m concerned about breaking the warranty if I change it. Most drivers work fine with the Windows update version, and I can use USB or external drives without issues. I suspect the power connector might be the issue, but I’m not sure. My plan is to take the board out and wait for a response to this thread. If I find something missing or similar cases, I’ll consider sending it in for service. I’m thinking about bringing both the keyboard and motherboard, but since they’re from different brands, I’m unsure what to expect. I’ll have to wait 2–4 weeks before deciding.
I'm beginning to think this might be related to a similar issue you've encountered before. Sometimes the keyboard or mouse won't turn on after powering up, even after restarting the PC. You mentioned having to unplug and replug the device, yet it still works when powered down. Since all your peripherals are wired, it could be a connection or power issue.
It runs but occasionally the keyboard keys fail to register properly when pressed, and the mouse movement gets interrupted briefly before resuming. Yes, this might indicate inconsistent power supply. The keyboard's single-key indicator also sometimes doesn't appear.
The keyboard comes with a wired connection. It's a fresh keyboard I haven't tried elsewhere before. The mouse, though wireless, has worked well on my laptop for years without any issues. As I mentioned, connecting it to the USB port on the motherboard seems fine. However, when plugged straight into the motherboard's USB port, it causes problems. For the keyboard, there are still occasional issues even after connecting it to the case's USB port.
