I purchased this computer approximately two weeks ago and have been struggling to resolve a persistent problem. When I move my mouse during gameplay, I experience either decreased frame rates, pauses in action, or inconsistent performance. The nature of the lag or stuttering varies depending on the game, with Apex Legends consistently presenting the most severe issues.

I've included a video demonstrating the lag: https://streamable.com/tfuet
Additionally, I’ve attached a screenshot of my CPU and GPU usage during typical gameplay versus when moving the mouse: https://imgur.com/5wBlgn9

My testing has revealed certain factors that exacerbate or diminish the lag and stuttering, though nothing has provided a permanent solution:

- Running TeamSpeak in the background significantly increases Apex Legends’ susceptibility to stuttering and complete frame drops, as illustrated in the video above.
- Utilizing an overlay program contributes to lag levels; for example, enabling the Origin Overlay results in more lag when moving the mouse compared to disabling it.
- Reducing my mouse’s polling rate reduces stutter/lag, but doesn't eliminate it entirely.

I have attempted numerous troubleshooting steps without success:

- Testing various mice (Logitech G PRO, Zowie EC2-B, Glorious Odin)
- Performing a full system wipe and reinstalling Windows 10.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling GPU drivers using DDU.
- Trying different USB ports.
- Removing USB hubs and restarting the PC.
- Updating chipset drivers.
- Replacing RAM (Corsair Vengeance LPX).
- Switching from the default chipset controller to Intel 300 series.
- Applying various Windows settings adjustments (reducing battery usage, disabling Xbox Game Bar/Game DVR, disabing high-precision event timer).

It seems the issue might stem from a software or configuration conflict related to how the PC handles mouse movement. I’ve investigated running processes, modified mouse settings, and implemented any potential adjustments, but haven't been able to identify the root cause.

If you have any advice or suggestions for me to explore, I would greatly appreciate it. This problem has been exceptionally frustrating, and unfortunately, many solutions simply recommend lowering the mouse polling rate – a workaround that doesn’t truly address the underlying issue. Thank you for your assistance.

Attempt to turn off all power-saving features within the computer’s BIOS. Select the highest performance power mode in Windows settings. What version of NVIDIA driver is currently installed? Try installing just the video driver and the PhysX driver separately. Avoid utilizing GeForce Experience for GPU configuration purposes.

What is the number of floating windows or toolbars that are active while you're playing?

System performance configurations are already active. I didn’t discover many adjustable options within the BIOS. My Nvidia graphics card driver version is 436.02, and I’m updating to a later release to evaluate whether it resolves the issue. I utilized DDU to remove my existing drivers and intended to install the GPU driver directly, bypassing GeForce Experience – however, an error message prevented this, forcing me to use the software. I’m uncertain about how to install the driver independently and might consider a previous version.

I've tested the system with minimal overlays, running solely Apex Legends and Origin, while disabling the Origin overlay. This significantly reduced the severe lag exhibited in the video I submitted. However, a consistent frame rate drop persists during mouse movement, occurring approximately every second.

Yes so try turning your polling rate down to 125 and see what happens. Do have an game controller you can use with the pc? Also make sure in windows device-mouse-pointer options, that enhance pointer precision is unchecked. And have you tried adjusting the speed in there as well?

After testing a PlayStation 4 controller, I experienced no delays or problems while controlling movement and viewing in games—it operated flawlessly. However, immediately upon using my mouse, I encountered significant lag and decreased performance levels. I experimented with different mouse refresh rates, noting that lower settings reduced the visibility of lag and stutters, though they still created a noticeable discrepancy in mouse tracking throughout my desktop. It seems this problem may stem from something—perhaps the USB hub, CPU, or even a fundamental Windows setting—that is improperly processing mouse data sent to my computer, possibly by inadvertently reducing the priority given to my game’s CPU and GPU when mouse movements occur.

If possible, consider reverting your mouse drivers. Numerous Microsoft updates frequently cause issues with compatibility. Furthermore, could you specify the resolution and refresh rate of your screen? Experimenting with display configurations—such as disabling overclocking, altering the refresh rate—might prove beneficial. Lastly, what audio drivers are you currently utilizing? Examining and updating these could also be helpful.

Recently, I encountered a precisely identical issue with my recently constructed system. It spontaneously resolved itself when I connected an outdated mouse I kept on hand while Minecraft was running; subsequently, using my usual mouse restored full functionality. If that fails, attempting to reinstall all motherboard drivers might be a helpful step.

Greetings,

I’m experiencing the identical issue with my hardware – specifically, my processor and graphics card are identical. Have you managed to find a resolution?

I plan to try troubleshooting further by replacing my graphics card and, if needed, testing with a different motherboard utilizing the Z370 chipset. Could you please let me know which motherboard is part of your setup?

If my system performs better after these changes, I’ll update this discussion with my findings.

Best regards
