I’m dealing with the loss of a close friend. My old machine means swapping the motherboard is essentially getting a fresh setup, aside from keeping my SSD and 1070 for several more years. I rely on my computer for work—mainly handling Google Sheets and online meetings—and gaming, especially Divinity 2, MHW, and Witcher3 recently. With a new baby on the way and a strong need for space, an ITX might be a smart choice to replace my full tower and free up room in the living area. Are there any major CPU updates expected this year? How do temperatures look for the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X in a compact case? I haven’t tried water cooling yet and am hesitant about limited time and money. Any suggestions for a suitable motherboard would be appreciated. Budget under $600 USD, thanks!
Air cooled 3700x in compact ITX setup is fine if it isn’t overly sealed. Your spending on the board hinges on memory needs; a solid 16GB 3000MHz unit can comfortably stay under $70.
It was an older Acer build. We added more RAM, swapped in an SSD, upgraded the case, and finally installed a PSU. We spent countless hours gaming and streaming videos together. He was a wonderful friend.
That's great news! I think I can spare the $70 atm as right now I'll only get a mobo, cpu, RAM and whatever cooling is necessary.
The $70 refers to RAM, but I'm not entirely clear on what you're referring to.
It seems you'd like to move this post to the New Builds and Planning area since it involves setting up a mostly brand-new PC.
