I left my pc running for roughly six hours while downloading a game (around 40 gigabytes). The machine was functioning normally. Upon returning, I noticed it was still powered on but there was no visual output. I attempted to restart it, but nothing occurred. When I turned it off by pressing the power button, it restarted. After a couple of seconds, it powered back on again, though still without display. Throughout this process, my ASUS motherboard displayed the DRAM indicator. I tried using the MemOK feature, but it didn’t help. I checked all possible solutions, but nothing resolved the issue.
It could be a surprising DRAM issue, happening unexpectedly. Have you attempted to reset the CMOS? It might help to remove the memory modules individually if you have multiple ones.
This shouldn't prevent the board from posting, though if neither RAM module functioned, you'd need to test them on another system. Could you check the other details like the PC's specifications—CPU, RAM, and motherboard? It's unlikely the CPU failed, but it's not impossible.
The system runs an Intel i5 2500 with an Asus P8Z68V PRO board. I’m uncertain about the exact RAM configuration, but there are ways to verify its status.
oops sorry for not replying sooner. That's a somewhat older CPU and board, but I haven't heard of sandybridge just dying like that so it'd be odd, but possibly, however I'd be more thinking RAM, can you get a new DIMM cheaply? Probably be the better option, cheapest DIMM you can find to see if those two DIMMs but it is a little odd for two DIMMs to die together without something else killing them, which is why I thought maybe it was the CPU. I would suggest also looking for the lowest end LGA 1155 CPU you can find, a celeron or something like that, to test if it's the CPU. If new memory and a new CPU still don't post then it's probably the board. I would also suggest seeing if your board has BIOS flashback, it'll let you update/rewrite the BIOS of the board without the computer needing to be on or posting.
