Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to assemble my first PC and have a quick question about the CPU power connectors. I saw the Gigabyte X870 Eagle supports an 8+4 setup, while all the B650 boards use 8+8. My Ryzen 7 7800X3D is compatible with both, but I'm wondering if the 8+4 configuration will work for it or if I should opt for the 8+8 option instead.

Only the 8 matters. The 7800X3D draws around 85-100 watts when running normally. None of my systems exceed the 8-pin limit.

It's actually quite enough with just a few 4-pin connections, given the modest power consumption of the 7800x3d. The additional pins aren't really helpful for boosting performance even at low loads like LN2. They mostly add cosmetic value rather than functional benefit. If you have the budget for an LN2 cooler, you'd likely skip a mid-range B650 instead.
