Motherboard killed cpu?
Hi, I'm just starting out with building computers, and a few weeks ago I assembled a new PC. The specifications are:
CPU: Intel i5 6600k
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: ASUS Z170 pro
Videocard: Radeon R9 290 Tri-x
RAM: DDR4 Corsair vengeance led 3000mhz
PSU: EVGA Supernova g2 750w 80plus gold
CASE: Phantek p400
The build process was quite straightforward, everything functioned correctly, I ran some tests, and played games without any issues. Today, I decided to try overclocking.
I managed to achieve a speed of 4.5Ghz at 1.225v, ran a one-hour Prime95 test with no issues and maintained a maximum temperature of 80°C. After that, I thought it was time to relax and played a few games (Squad, Battlefield 1, The Division) smoothly.
Recently, my younger brother was playing flash games in the browser when suddenly the PC shut down. When I tried to restart it, the PC wouldn't POST. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a solid red light on the CPU LED and a green light on the power LED. The CPU cooler and fans were spinning, but that was it.
I was worried that I might have bent some pins during installation, so I removed the CPU and everything seemed fine. I'm unsure whether the issue lies with the CPU or the motherboard.
How can I figure out the exact problem?
Thanks in advance.
