You’ve hit on a key point – your i7-4770K *is* a 4th generation processor! You are absolutely correct that LGA 1151 primarily supports 6th and 7th gen Intel CPUs. Finding a motherboard compatible with it can be tricky, but there are definitely options available.

Here’s the breakdown and some recommendations:

Here’s a rewritten version of the text:

This motherboard, like the Gigabyte B85M-D3PH, uses an LGA 1150 socket to accommodate processors such as the i7-4770K. This CPU pairs well with a GTX 1050 graphics card. However, the B85 chipset doesn't support overclocking, which would limit the potential of your unlocked i7 processor. To get optimal performance, consider upgrading to a GTX 1060-6GB or better in the future for a more balanced pairing with the powerful CPU.

This document outlines a plan to purchase and use 4th generation Intel processors (Z87 or Z97 chipset) in order to overclock them. The objective is to optimize the performance of these CPUs by using motherboards with LGA 1150 sockets that support Z-chipsets for overclocking. This would be achieved through purchasing either the Z87 or Z97 motherboards, which will be tested and used to enhance the overall processing capabilities of the system.

You need a motherboard with an LGA 1150 socket and a Z-chipset (for overclocking). The 4th-gen motherboards would be either the Z87 or the Z97 motherboards: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/mother...ce&c=89,99
And will it run alright with the GTX 1050?
also, I live in Brazil and I can't find these on the local stores. I was wondering if this:
Motherboard GIGABYTE Intel LGA 1150 mATX GA-B85M-D3PH, DDR3, HDMI 4K, DVI, DualBIOS, SATA 6Gb/s , USB 3.0
would do the job

Here’s a rewritten version of the text, using different words:

This motherboard, the Gigabyte B85M-D3PH, is compatible with an Intel Core i7-4770K processor that can be overclocked. It also supports a GTX 1050 graphics card. However, this particular chipset (B85) doesn’t allow for overclocking of the unlocked CPU, meaning you won't be able to fully utilize its potential. The CPU and motherboard are well-suited for a mid-range setup, but for optimal performance, especially considering the i7-4770K’s capabilities, upgrading to a GTX 1060-6GB or better graphics card would provide a more balanced pairing in the future. Both components utilize an LGA 1150 socket.

The i7-4770K CPU you’ve chosen is unlocked and capable of being overclocked, but the motherboard (the B85M-D3PH) doesn't support that feature. Overclocking requires specific hardware and BIOS settings, which this board lacks. You wouldn’t need to enable it manually – it simply isn’t an option. This means you're limited to the CPU's base clock speed, which is perfectly adequate for your current setup with the GTX 1050. The combination of the i7-4770K and GTX 1050 will perform well in most games, although a more powerful GPU like a GTX 1060 would offer a better long-term experience if your budget allows.

Here’s a rewritten version of the text, using different words and aiming for clarity:

This guide focuses on building a computer around an Intel Core i7-4770K processor and a B85 motherboard. The i7-4770K is a capable CPU that can handle many tasks, and with this setup, you won’t need to worry about upgrading your CPU just to play newer games or run demanding applications.

If you're looking for the best performance, you could upgrade to a Z87 or Z97 motherboard to unlock overclocking capabilities for your i7-4770K. However, if you don’t plan on manually adjusting your processor speeds, the B85 motherboard is a perfectly suitable choice, especially considering availability in your area. The i7-4770K performs well enough at its stock speed and won't limit your ability to add a more powerful graphics card like an NVIDIA GTX 1060 later on – you wouldn’t need to replace the CPU for that upgrade.

Essentially, this setup provides a solid foundation, prioritizing value and practicality over extreme performance features you might not utilize.

The rewritten text:

This older i7-4770K processor was a good choice, but it’s time to consider an upgrade. If you want better performance, especially with newer games or demanding applications, you'll need a more powerful CPU and motherboard. Currently, your B85 motherboard limits your options; it doesn’t support overclocking, so you won’t be able to fully utilize the i7-4770K’s potential.

To get the most out of a newer GPU like an RTX 3060 or even better, you'll also need a compatible CPU. A modern motherboard with a Z690 or X670 chipset would allow for overclocking and support for current-generation Intel processors (like an i5-12600K or higher). This combination will provide significantly improved performance compared to your current setup.

Don’t worry about the GPU right now – focus on upgrading the CPU and motherboard first. It's better to build a solid foundation that can support future upgrades rather than immediately investing in a high-end graphics card without addressing the core processing power. A good GPU will be wasted if your processor is too weak.

Thank you for the assistance; I appreciate your insights!

I have the same i7 4770k and 32GB of DDR3 ram from a Gigabyte Z87XUD5H mobo that just died.
Also looking for a compatible mobo that can use this hardware for my Hackintosh machine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
