Hi everyone, I placed my CPU inside the array and bent a pin. I need to verify if it's a VSS pin that's shorted to a nearby VSS pin. I have a photo of the socket and a close-up showing the pin bending next to its neighbor. From my studies of pin configurations, both the bent pin and the adjacent one are VSS [ground]. You're having trouble viewing images on your phone. If you're willing to try, using a magnifying glass and good lighting might help. Avoid asking someone young to do it for you. I've repaired bent socket pins before. The issue seems simple enough. Edited October 6, 2024 by RevGAM
I’m having trouble working on it while viewing it at once, which affects the quality of the work. The device is now with the neighbor. The pin isn’t centered properly, so it won’t land on the correct spot on the CPU pad. If it’s not hitting a pad but instead an open area, the likely outcome is that the connection won’t be stable. I’m unsure if this will cause a fault or just a misalignment. I can’t capture a clear side view showing the pin upright, so I’m worried about reliability moving forward. MSI PRO Z790-A Wi-Fi, Pin AJ x 48 bent into AJ x 49, both VSS grounded. The pinout map was from a site I found online. It’s frustrating to replace the board, but I feel it’s the best option for future troubleshooting.
Ugh, it’s really tough. The only situation similar to what you’re facing is fixing pins on an AM4 CPU. It’s not great either.
It seems you tackled a similar issue before, but now you have a magnifier with a light. Visit a hardware or electronics store to get something that will secure the light or magnifier for easier handling. Alternatively, you could say goodbye to that motherboard. In the worst case, you might need to replace the new motherboard and CPU. The problem lies in just one pin—there were several on the new board, but I wasn’t sure how it happened unless the seller sent a refurbished or open box. It took a few hours, but now everything functions properly and my niece is thrilled.
Keep in mind you'll have to obtain a fresh Windows product key along with a new motherboard...
I didn’t manage to install OS on the old board. It was a rough weekend, and my Win 11 USB drive remains locked inside the box until the new setup is ready.
