Most unusual sound problem? Audio source fails, or output halts and disrupts all media playback.
I've experienced this problem for a long time. It's really frustrating and I'm struggling to understand what's causing it. The issue involves my microphone sometimes cutting out unexpectedly, especially when using Discord or other voice platforms. I tried plugging the USB headset in and out to temporarily fix it, which allowed the mic to work for a few minutes before it stopped again. While watching media, the audio would suddenly stop, then briefly resume—often after a coin flip. If the sound doesn't return, the whole video plays on hold indefinitely. Restarting Chrome helps only temporarily; I need to restart my whole PC for the playback to continue. It seems this happens whenever the system boots up cold. I've tried everything from switching headsets and updating BIOS to disabling the motherboard sound. My current specs are: Windows 10 Pro 64 z690 Aorus Elite DDR4, Intel i5-13600k, Corsair Vengeance RAM, RTX 3090, Kingston NV1 1TB, Crucial MX 500, and an old Intel SSD. I'm open to any solution, even if it means spending money, like replacing a faulty mousepad that might be the culprit.
Check available sounds in the system controls and verify your headphone as the default. Consider disabling other devices to see if the issue persists. Ensure you have the most recent driver for your audio chipset. If problems continue, the onboard audio on your motherboard might be faulty—consider using a budget sound card. Let me know if you need further assistance.
You didn't download the sound drivers directly from Gigabyte's site, opting instead for auto-downloaded versions from Windows Update. This can lead to compatibility problems compared to official motherboard-specific drivers.
It seems like a strange situation you're describing. Could you clarify if you're referring to a specific appliance or device connected to the same electrical circuit as your PC? Also, are there any other electronics or power sources nearby that might interfere?
Open Task Manager, find the Windows Audio Device Graph Isolator process, and reset it. This should fix the playback issues you're experiencing.
It's strange. It happened around the last time I updated nvidia but no one else is reporting that connection so I guess it's coincidence. After I restart that process it could last 5 hours, 5 mins or 5 seconds. There's no rhyme or reason to it
It seems the NVIDIA driver was the culprit. Everything began after updating the GPU driver, specifically the latest one. Reinstalling audio and chipset drivers didn’t resolve the problem. After almost a week without audio crashes, it appears the fix occurred during the newest update. I spent over an hour searching but found no others with the same issue, so I didn’t reinstall the driver. The only conclusion is that something unusual happened during the update for me.
