Gained a 11 64bit system with 7700x, 3080-FE or RX570, 2x16GB gskill DDR5 6000, ASUS X670E+ Wi-Fi BIOS 1406, 850w Silverstone, Samsung 980 Pro, NHD15s. THE STORY: Constructed a fresh machine roughly three months back, and it performed well until about two weeks prior. I don’t recall any hardware or software updates coinciding with this issue. The problem emerges after approximately 5 to 20 minutes of loading into maps, raid setups, or games—especially in modern FPS titles. Occasionally, the game restarts to desktop, though sometimes a brief blackout or minor graphics glitch occurs. This pattern repeats consistently across different titles, but never appears in lobbies or menus, even when GPU is locked at 100%. Most games didn’t trigger useful error messages, though I’ll share what I observed. I’ve spent two weeks trying to figure it out without success. Games affected include Hunt Showdown, Hell Let Loose, Control, COD Warzone 2.0, and titles I haven’t seen the issue with, ordered by testing time: Left 4 Dead 2, Factorio, Battle Bit Remastered, Insurgency, TF2 FurMark (completed a 40-minute burn-in), and CineBench R23 Multi-core ran smoothly. Attempts & failures: Checked game cache, reinstalled Hunt Showdown drivers, updated BIOS/mobile hardware, used latest NVIDIA drivers, adjusted TPM settings. Hardware changes included re-seating RAM, GPU, and replacing the 3080 with an RX570 from my previous PC (with drivers installed). Disabled OC mode, shadowplay, and CPU tuning. Notable fixes: Raised graphics to low, limited to 30fps in Hunt Showdown; changed settings on other titles. Other changes tried: disabled 3080, set TPM rules, reinstalled drivers. No clear cause yet. Debug logs found: Device Manager error about permissions, Event Viewer warnings related to crashes. Conclusions: I’m uncertain what’s causing this. I need suggestions for further troubleshooting. The only viable options left are reseating the CPU or performing a full Windows reinstall—both as last resorts. The 3080 is a used mining GPU; swapping it with an older Radeon caused the same crashes. It might be tied to PCI-5 bus settings, which I’m unfamiliar with. This situation is complicated because these issues popped up unexpectedly after months of stable performance. My PC had run all these games smoothly for three months until a weekend I started experiencing crashes while playing with friends. Maybe I misconfigured the RAM BIOS settings, leading to bit corruption and broader instability. I’m unsure whether the problem lies in hardware or software and don’t know if it’s a one-time glitch or a deeper issue.
I made a mistake with the BIOS update, and it didn't install properly at first. It only became apparent after reviewing everything again before giving up and reinstalling. Updating the BIOS to the latest version fixed the issues I was facing. I could have saved time by checking the version after updating instead of assuming it would work.
