I've encountered unexpected shutdowns in titles like Deep Rock Galactic: survivor, Soulstone survivors, and recently in Withering rooms. All three are multiplayer games, yet I've also faced crashes in other titles using different engines—Deep Rock Galactic on UE4 and Elden Ring using their proprietary engine. Capturing a screenshot of the crash was challenging since it typically appeared only briefly. In Withering rooms, the failure seems to occur in a particular section of the game, though it still crashes after just a minute. While occasional freezes and audio glitches happened before the crash, they weren't consistent.

My system specs include an RTX 4090 GPU, i9 13900KF processor, ROG STRIX Z790-H motherboard, 96 GB DDR5 RAM, and a Corsair RM1000e 1000W power supply (80+ gold). Monitoring tools show unusual temperatures on the motherboard, but these likely stem from faulty readings rather than real overheating. The crash isn’t usually tied to memory pressure or CPU spikes, which rarely exceeded 50% usage. Most likely, the browser—especially with multiple tabs open—causes the issue. I attempted to restart the machine, but the problem persisted.

I also tried a SFC/scannow via CMD, which resolved some file corruption but didn’t fix the crashes. No one else seems to have reported the same issue, and the pattern appears consistent across different games.

Use a stable method to force crashes in games. Install Process Lasso from bitsum.com. It helps you click the right-click button on the game and assign its CPU to particular cores or threads. Configure it to run solely on your P cores and observe whether the crashes persist.

You're not familiar with all the details, but it seems you thought this was the intended setup. However, it still crashed under those conditions.

They've addressed a few strange problems with different solutions. Let's review what you've already attempted. Are you using XMP for that RAM? It will require four sticks, so I recommend turning it off temporarily. Have you experimented with XTU to reduce your Pcore ratio to x54 or x53? I've noticed some processors can run as low as x52. Make sure your BIOS is current—there have been significant updates recently, so an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

From my brief search, XMP is likely something I disable in BIOS. Regarding the XTU, it probably refers to the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. The update page suggests it's not a straightforward driver change and may require further steps. I'll check the BIOS settings for XMP and see if disabling it helps, but it seems the issue might be more complex. I'll also review the update instructions and consider alternative fixes.

This update is similar to an older post, but it goes beyond just driver installation. There are several BIOS updates available for better stability. The key consideration is your motherboard's age and the current BIOS version. That’s likely the initial step to take.

You're planning to update the bios, which isn't something you've done much before. I can help guide you through the process. Since backing everything up feels overwhelming, let's start with the XTU and core ratio first. I've already made the bios update and adjusted the pcore ratio to 54x. The crash during the initial 15 minutes was minimal—only a few minutes before it stopped. Unfortunately, I don't have time to test more today, so we'll need to wait tomorrow to see if it works properly.

Ran for a few hours without any issues, indicating the update and Pcore adjustment resolved the problem.
