More speed or higher capacity?
More speed or higher capacity?
Hi, I heard your friend upgraded his PC and gifted you the old CPU, MB, and RAM (i7 7700k, ASUS Z270 K, 2x8GB @2400MHz + 2x8GB @3000MHz). It’s a nice upgrade for me, but now I’m thinking about whether 32GB @2400 or 16GB @3000 would work better. Since you enjoy modded games where RAM might be limited, let me know your thoughts! Thanks in advance 😊
Intel chips handle RAM differently compared to AMD Ryzen ones. A 16GB at 3000 MHz is usually a stronger choice since you won’t always need the full capacity, even with heavily customized systems.
RAM size only counts if you lack sufficient space. If you can function with 16GB without swapping to the filesystem, the additional memory will perform better without any drawbacks. But once you surpass 16GB, performance will drop significantly. Keep track of your RAM usage and observe how it behaves in the most demanding situations of your computing habits. If you're below 16GB, proceed; otherwise, stay within your existing capacity.
