I'm investigating why Monster Hunter: Wilds keeps crashing shortly after launching. I've played the game smoothly for about 50 hours over the past two weeks without any problems. The crashes seem random—sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes 25 minutes. It doesn't appear to be linked to specific in-game actions, like idle time, loading, or missions. There was no issue on Friday morning when it worked perfectly. No updates were made during this period.
I've tried several fixes: installed a Windows update (preview), checked for C++ and DirectX12 updates, used DDU to clear GPU drivers and reinstall, adjusted in-game settings to minimal with no FSR/frame generation, tweaked GPU offset to -500MHZ, removed the game from Steam, reinstalled, verified files multiple times, ran a library scan via Steam, and even used a cleaner. Still, crashes occur within 30 minutes.
Interestingly, after the Windows update preview, the game always opened the Capcom crash tool launcher, which usually just closes without crashing. Component temperatures stayed normal. My hardware specs are ASUS TUF 9070XT GPU with 7800X3D and a CPU I haven't changed. I've tested many other games and they all ran fine. It seems this might be a Monster Hunter: Wilds-specific problem.
I have an event viewer log showing the crash details, including fault codes and timestamps. If you need help debugging further or want to try a more thorough uninstall, let me know.
Ensure your GPU matches the exact AMD frequency settings. Adjust only as needed to stay within specifications. Some games, particularly Monster Hunter, are very sensitive to overclocking. Your Asus GPU might already be pre-set, so avoid any drift. I experienced crashes when trying to undervolt, even minor changes caused issues. At normal speeds it works, though it can get quite hot after recent updates.
