I have my 3080 linked with two monitors and two TVs. Because I rarely use one of the TVs, I leave it unplugged most of the time. However, each time I power it on—even without using the TV input—I notice the screens freeze for roughly 1 to 2 minutes. During that time, audio and other features stay active, but the video remains stuck at the last frame before the TV turns on. This problem also happens when I disconnect and reconnect the TV. I've looked into Event Viewer and searched online, but no fixes seem to work. I've already tried basic steps like updating drivers, doing a DDU, reinstalling, clearing CMOS, etc. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, please let me know. I also attempted it once around 11:50 and again around 12:50. My PC specs are (all stock) R7 5800X 3080 32GB RAM (DDR4, 3600MHz). The monitors are 1440p at 144Hz, the second monitor is 1440p at 75Hz, and the TVs are 4K at 60Hz. The one causing the issue is the third TV with 4K at 60Hz (plus a CRT display).
A brief hesitation during connection or powering up a screen is typical as the device adjusts to the new setup. This happens especially with monitors that support various resolutions and refresh rates. The EDID chip in your monitor usually reacts to commands from the computer, which can trigger this stutter even when the display isn’t actively showing content from the input.
I saw this article a while back, but it didn’t seem to make much difference. I’m curious if it’s specific to Windows. I tried using the Windows repair tool, but it didn’t help. Something else I noticed is that only one of my monitors appears as a monitor, while the others are just generic PNP displays.
