I’m just starting with PC stuff for the first time in early August, and my computer has been running smoothly until recently.
Here’s what happened:
At first, it was a small problem that grew bigger. When launching a game, it would open for a few seconds, then the monitor would lose signal and go dark. The fans would start spinning loudly. The only solution I could try was holding the power button to shut it down manually. This has happened in several games.
I also experienced this once when opening a project in a video editing app and once just by opening Steam.
In the Windows event logs, I see a warning: “Event 2, NVIDIA OpenGL Driver: Ran out of memory.”
So far, I’ve tried:
1. Changing the PSU cable from a power strip to a wall outlet.
2. Using DDU to reinstall GPU drivers twice.
3. Installing the latest AMD chipset drivers.
4. Updating and flashing the BIOS.
5. Reducing RAM speed from 6400 to 6000 MHz.
6. Running diagnostics on CPU and GPU, including during games.
Now I moved my PC onto a desk surface and unplugged everything.
I’ve tried many things but nothing seems to fix it. Sometimes a game launches fine, other times not at all.
My PC details:
- Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080 SUPER
- RAM: GSkill Trident 64GB DDR5
- PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-1000
- CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin
- Storage: WD_BLACK 2TB x 2
I’m new here and running out of ideas. Any advice would mean a lot to me.
