Monitor on the left shows red spots when both screens are linked
Earlier my wife's monitor displayed a red corrupted image with just a few lines at the top, while the rest remained intact. I assumed her GPU was failing, so I bought a new one and connected it via HDMI instead of DisplayLink. The left screen showed strange banding but I dismissed it because the old GPU was already poor quality. After installing the new GPU and using DisplayLink cables, the same problem persisted. Removing the right monitor resolved the issue completely. Now the left monitor works fine when plugged into HDMI, but the banding remains. The monitors are under four months old. I've tested various cables and even removed other PCI devices without success. Rebooting didn't help either; it only worked after a long shutdown. So the HDMI cable seems to be a temporary solution at best.
System: Windows 10 64 bit Home Edition
CPU: Intel Skylake i5 6600K @ 3.5GHz
Motherboard: MSI H170A Gaming Pro (MS-7978)
RAM: 32GB spread over 4 cards (brand unknown)
GPU: ASUS NVIDIA RTX 3060 12G
Current situation: Struggling with setup, considering upgrades or alternatives.
Photo evidence: Images attached showing the issue and artifacts.
The monitor specifications differ from the motherboard details. It seems unrelated to the GPU connection, possibly due to software issues. Would you like to test with another computer or another monitor to compare results?
I rearranged the roles of your wife and your PC during setup. Both devices functioned correctly once connected via HDMI, though the left monitor still displayed banding artifacts. The right monitor worked perfectly over DisplayPort when using my monitors. There were some unusual graphics problems initially, but switching the display port resolved them. I've included a video showing the graphical issues. IMG_0995.MOV
They match the same brand and model, but differ from your setup.
We can confidently eliminate your wife's PC as the source of the issue. The display glitch she experienced was unusual, but it’s not uncommon to encounter some artifacts from time to time. Since her left monitor still displays that band on your computer, it’s likely damaged. You should definitely request an RMA.
It has a three-year warranty. I've submitted an RMA request and will ship it tomorrow. I'm hoping it resolves the issue.
It's great to hear. Need to address the monitor's high failure rate. I had to return an item once due to spontaneous cracking, and the store mentioned frequent warranty claims.
