Hi guys! It's been a while since I have made a build and this time I made one for a relative of mine as a gift. The problem is, I am not sure I can use the MOBO with just the CPU without a dedicated VIDEO board.
I have bought
https://www.gigabyte.com/ro/Motherboard/...-rev-20#kf
and
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-3100-8-...B0876Y2TMZ
All the other components are ok. SSD 256GB, HDD 512GB 7200 RPM, 8G RAM Corsair, keyboard, mouse, webcam, dvd-wrt, etc. Everything works in another computer.
When I have connected the desktop to an ASUS monitor, with the HDMI cable+DVI-D adapter and the VGA cable everything powered on but the monitor had no video input.
It is possible I need to buy Video Board too? This is a simple PC just for email reading and writing some documents. If this setup doesn't work without a Video Board, some cheap suggestions are most welcomed.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Yeah you will need a discrete GPU in order to get display out from the build. Had you gone with a Ryzen APU, then you'd have gotten an iGPU on said processor but AMD call it an APU. On second thoughts, if you're able to return the Ryzen 3 3100, you should pick up the Ryzen 3 3200G/Ryzen 5 3400G instead and call if a day, instead of buying a discrete GPU as an add on.
Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model if you've handed your relative an used unit.
