I was preparing to assemble my Win9 Home build to have a backup in case things didn’t go as planned. Discovered a surprising issue: there are no icons, only their descriptions. I captured each step in a snapshot and set up a fresh VM for every task, which will take some time to trace back. This problem isn’t visible during sysprep since everything appears normal, so it wasn’t until I was getting ready to generate the ISO that I realized about it. If anyone knows how to fix this—particularly if it involves registry settings—I’d really appreciate any guidance before the final steps like /generalize or oobe/shutdown.

DISM is there to assist you—search the /export-image option. You can also employ DISM to mount an image. This enables you to incorporate updates, drivers, activate features, manage or delete files, and even modify the registry. If you don’t wish to install software onto your image, you won’t need VMs or sysprep.

Try it now after fixing your icon issue. Have you ever faced missing icons, leaving only the title visible?

It's strange since in safe mode the icons appear, but they disappear when you restart to normal settings.

I don't think so. You might want to clear the icon cache, restart your device, and then press F5 again on the desktop.

I managed to fix the icon problem by swapping a few DLLs in the Windows\System32 directory. I also had to rebuild the wim file, though it wasn’t too serious. The main issue was that after installing, several changes didn’t last. For example, the classic shell settings for Windows 7 were changed to Metro mode and the start skin was missing. I switched Explorer to open to PC but it still defaulted. Many other settings were undone. Also, I deleted the Windows Store feature and forced its removal, which then reappeared.

I created an installation disc that missed some settings I had during sysprep mode. I forgot to copy the profile, start menu, and taskbar files. For my previous Win10Pro setup using a Windows 9 disc, I’m now trying it with Win10Home. I’m really unsure how to do this correctly. I’ve looked into various configuration files like unattend.xml, copyprofile.xml, and customlayout.xml, placing them in %appdata%\Microsoft\Shell or %windir%\system32\sysprep\panther. So far, I’ve encountered an error saying unattend.xml can’t be parsed in c:\windows\panther, which is confusing since I expected it to show a different message. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Discovered a way to fix my Windows 9 Home setup with profiles and similar steps! First, install Windows 10 Home—best done on a VM for using snapshots. The build used version 10.0.10240 A. When prompted for a registration key, enter sysprep mode by pressing SHIFT + F3. Proceed through the instructions to create "Windows 9" and handle any other installs, tweaks, or removals. Second, prepare sysprep using the guide on tenforums.com; modify settings to suit your needs. Third, test the process by running a sysprep build after taking a snapshot so you can revert if needed. The final output includes a screenshot of the completed installation with the dark theme enabled. This should assist others facing similar challenges. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9668...-10-a.html

I finally managed to merge the installs and it works mostly well. The main issue I faced was when importing my Win9Pro WIM file into the Win9Home WIM file and generating an ISO, two operating systems appear as expected, but the second one lists Win9Pro without a name, even though the description from NTLite indicates it's the Pro version. I don’t see a method to add a name or set the version flag. Also, trying DISM hasn’t helped much after searching online.
