Modification details for Dell Studio 540 LGA 775 to LGA771
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and just started this forum. I recently purchased an Intel Xeon E5450 C0 stepping unit, but when I power on the system, the clock speed remains at 2.4 GHz instead of the expected 3.0 GHz. I've noticed others installing Xeon E5450 without issues, but why is mine different?
I attempted to update the microcode for LGA771 by writing a ROM file and flashing it into the BIOS, but the process failed with an error saying "Bad command or filename."
My motherboard is IPIEL-RN2 and I'm using Dell Inspiron Desktop 540 system BIOS version 1.1.3. Please let me know if this helps.

I recently purchased an Intel Xeon E5450 C0 stepping (modded), but when I power on the system, the clock speed remains at 2.4 GHz instead of 3.0 GHz.
I've noticed others installing Xeon E5450 without issues, but why is mine showing a different speed?

My motherboard is IPIEL-RN2 and I'm using Dell Inspiron Desktop 540 system BIOS, version 1.1.3. Please help me with this issue.
Could anyone assist me with this problem? Thank you.

You won't actually be able to update the BIOS by writing a ROM file; you'll need to transfer your new BIOS onto a USB flash drive and install it that way.
How do you plan to update the microcodes for 771 processors? I thought BIOS updates could be done via ROMs.
Hmm... I hadn't considered updating microcodes through USB. How are you handling the ROM setup? Are you using MMTOOL to load the ROM?
