Modernizing a vintage Packard bell for the tm86 model
Hi, I just purchased an old Packard bell TM86-GN-005UK. I’m planning a full upgrade and started with the RAM which had 4GB. I’m wondering if an 8GB or 320GB SSD would work, along with an older SSD that’s not in use. I also have a 1GB NVMe SSD, a 15.6-inch WXGA monitor. I’m unsure if it’s feasible to fit a standard HD display with 40 pins onto the laptop. Regarding the CPU, it came with an i3 350M dual-core processor and also an i5 430M dual-core. Can I upgrade to an i7 720QM quad-core processor with 45 watts? The CPU is not soldered and all models share the same socket. Thanks!
I searched extensively and located the laptop's support page in one of the recent BIOS updates. The CPU details were noted as i7-640 (not quad-core but an upgrade), with stock models like i3, i5, and i7 at various speeds. Regarding the screen, I believe the Acer 5741 is comparable to the Tm86 based on the updated bios information. It seems worth checking if it's available for around 20€.
