Hello, your new ROG B-550 board is a great upgrade. For replacing your old B-450, some users report issues with windows and license keys after a swap, especially when moving from MSI to Gigabyte or similar brands. However, since you're using a very similar ROG board, the risk might be lower. Other potential problems could include compatibility quirks or minor performance differences, but testing after installation would help confirm.

Microsoft naturally anticipated that users would switch their equipment to the latest models eventually. Thus, protection becomes relevant only when hardware evolves rapidly—such as if you replace your motherboard weekly.

This was my initial assumption, just looking for more details. Thank you!

Hey there. If your Windows 10 key is tied to your Microsoft account (you can verify in Settings > Update & Security > Activation), you probably won’t need to buy a new one. After swapping your GIGABYTE B450 for an ASUS X570 and booting up, Windows still worked and everything seemed fine—no reinstall was necessary. If you ever do a clean install, keeping a backup of your product key is wise. Windows 10 should activate automatically if your MS account is linked and you log in afterward. If it doesn’t reactivate on its own, the retained key will help you recover.
