Hi, I just received a new motherboard and power supply. I’m a bit concerned about Windows and storage since I’m upgrading my PC. Should I replace the existing Windows version and clear out my hard drive completely if I switch motherboards? Also, do I need to buy a new Windows license or is there an option to keep the current one? I’m worried about the cost of both.

Log in to your Microsoft account and register your Windows key. After that, reinstall Windows without purchasing a new one. You’ll lose files on your hard drive during the process, so make sure to save any important data on a USB drive.

You should check if replacing the motherboard affects the Windows installation.

It may work, but a new setup is still recommended. Conflicts between drivers could lead to problems.

Third time this section starts with the same issue. One version uses a different mainboard and PSU, and you can test the old setup. Find more details in several related posts here.

You don’t necessarily need to format the HDD. It depends on what you plan to do with it. If you just want to keep your games, documents, and music intact, formatting might not be required unless you’re moving it to a different drive or system.

Avoid reinstalling or changing formats. Just inspect the hardware first, then reinstall Windows whenever needed.
