I purchased a switch for my modem to enable PC connectivity on Windows 10 and Apple Airport Extreme. However, when connecting via Ethernet, it displays an unidentified network and blocks access. I’ve been forced to use the Airport instead of the switch. Could there be a solution to connect directly through the modem without using the Airport?

What type of switch are we talking about? Some are basic switches that don’t assign IP addresses (that’s the role of a router).

I purchased a new switch and connected it to the router by plugging its Ethernet cable into the appropriate port.

It's a Netgear GS605 model that claims compatibility with a modem.

The issue lies with the airport itself. There seems to be a problem preventing the connection to the switch.

the airport isn't delivering the complete speed for a direct connection to the modem, so i installed a switch and connected the modem directly, then tested my pc. the airport was functioning properly.

It's possible the airport and the modem are competing for control of the IP address allocation.

It's often assumed your modem also serves as a router. Using a separate modem without router features won't work. You can link the switch straight to the network or, if the modem supports routing but is turned off, activate DHCP on the modem (and turn it off at the switch).

If you connect both devices, do you still receive internet access? Also, your Airport Extreme setup doesn’t cause any performance issues versus using it directly from the modem.
