There isn't any "cable router" concept; a regular "Standard" router should suffice. Just ensure you purchase a router rather than a modem/router combo. For instance, the TP Link Archer C7 or the Synology RT2600AC are typical examples of standard routers. The C7 is generally a budget option, especially in the US, while the Synology model tends to be more costly.

You can't connect third-party cable modems on your Virgin network. You must use the provided hubs. Purchase a reliable third-party cable router and switch it to modem mode.
