Dumb question but is my modem (Netgear D7000) internet light keeps blinking (turning off and on) is it suppose to do that or is there a fault on my dsl wall line or my dsl wire?

It functions correctly. It should blink when expected and not when it shouldn't.

The internet light blinks on most modems to indicate there is active traffic, so yes it is normal.

For additional details, refer to the owner's manual. The section on the Internet LED explains: Solid white indicates a detected Internet connection. Solid amber means no connection detected. If you need further help, check the troubleshooting guide on page 299. Data transmission is active with alternating white and amber lights. The traffic meter is on and has reached its limit. Off signifies no internet access or connection failure.
