I'm experiencing issues with the surface laptop. It's currently running in S mode under Windows, and it refuses to execute x64 applications that weren't downloaded from the Microsoft Store, even after changing to a different mode. Anyone have experience with this? Also, how do x86 applications behave in this situation?

S mode behaves consistently across both x86 and x64 applications. Since switching to S mode is straightforward, keep it disabled for general purposes.

According to Microsoft's website, when you disable S Mode on x64 applications, they won't function properly even if downloaded from outside the MICROSFT store.

Are you sure about the location? Turning off S mode lets you use the full Windows 10 version and install software directly from the store.

They're not launching because it's using a 32-bit Windows build. "Still" indicates the issue persists regardless of switching from S mode.

Yep, the documentation indicates you're checking for 32-bit Windows. All Surface units sold today are equipped with Windows 10 64-bit, available in Home or Pro versions in S Mode or otherwise. It appears Microsoft focuses on providing a stable experience across their platforms. Store applications meet approval standards and operate within a sandboxed setting. For most users, the Store offers exactly what they need. LiquidText is just recently launched. Regarding Chrome, the upcoming Windows 10 update later this month will bring a new Chromium-based Edge replacing the current version. This updated Edge replaces Google services with Microsoft alternatives, includes optimizations, and features a redesigned interface. Extensions remain compatible with the new browser, and you can download them from the official Google site if needed. You can easily change to S Mode anytime without needing a reinstall—just a brief process and it's free.
