I've been struggling to get Garry's Mod running on my side PC for a long time. The issue starts when you open the game—it begins downloading my 300 workshop addons, completes a few, then crashes. Sometimes the whole Steam client crashes with it. Alt-tabbing during download causes a crash, while leaving it in the main menu also leads to crashes. Even when loading a map and playing actively while addons download, it still fails. My laptop handled idling and loading without problems, so this should be a more capable side desktop. Searching online hasn't turned up any similar problems. I've checked the cache and reinstalled it three times.

Look for a method to prevent the addons from downloading. You can access the GMod section in the Steam workshop and manage your subscriptions there, similar to how you handle add-ons in Skyrim.

Consider canceling the subscription and removing all your add-ons to begin anew.

I had to remove every addon I had installed. It took more than 100 pages. In the end, I managed to fix my GMod.
