Hello everyone! I'm planning to upgrade in the coming weeks to an AM5 platform, possibly with the 7700X or 9700X chips, and maybe even a Ryzen 9. After researching various motherboards, the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING stood out for its ample M.2 slots and strong PCIe X16 support. The USB options on that board are also impressive. Are there any alternatives that could match this performance at a lower price? I need many USB-A ports—perhaps one or two USB-C connectors—and a USB 3.0 PCIe slot, totaling around nine or more ports. The PCIe X16 speed should work well across all slots, and the board should include three M.2 slots similar to the one I liked. No need for 5.0x16 on lower-gen boards or many extra PCIe lanes if they’re not necessary. Thanks!

I enjoy the AsRock B650 Pro RS WiFi. It’s slightly lighter on features but offers three M.2 ports, and it’s notably cheaper than the Asus version.

asus appears to take some pcie lanes away from the gpu for a third m.2 connected to the cpu. This setup seems unnecessary unless you really need super-fast storage across multiple drives. The pcie configuration here is actually inferior compared to what you'd find on a b650 livemixer (16x4). My advice would be to go with the b650 livemixer, as it's more affordable and still offers three pcie x16 slots, four from the cpu, and four from the chipset. It also includes 21 total usb a ports—13 on the rear and 8 from headers—but only has two usb c ports instead of the usual four.

From the details I found about the Strix b650e-e, it supports all the components mentioned. There doesn’t seem to be any further information on their website about simultaneous usability beyond that. That’s why I’m focused on the display panel. EDIT: My priority is just one additional PCIe port for a GPU, since I already use three M.2 SSDs. One of them is connected via an 16xPCIe adapter to a M.2 card and uses USB 3.0 through another port, allowing both cards to share the connection. I’d like to add an Elgato4K PCIe slot once I get one, which is why I need two PCIe slots. The Strix B650E-E is currently priced at 258€ in Germany, which seems reasonable. This model isn't listed for purchase in Germany. It seems well-suited since it doesn't share lanes like the B650 Livemixer "If M2_3 is occupied, PCIE3 will be disabled." The ALC897 is a bit of an issue for me, and I haven't found it anywhere affordable. I'm open to alternatives similar to the Strix, willing to invest 200€ or more if it offers the extra 42€ value.

These additional slots are quite uncommon, used in only a small fraction of scenarios, making them more suitable for specialized setups rather than everyday needs.

Sure, the GPU is a solid choice, especially with some PCIe expansion cards; a smaller form factor would be great too. I usually have a lot of components in my setup, which means there aren't many devices that support 3-inch SSDs like me. I've had to replace my motherboard several times because it lacked sufficient PCIe lanes. Upgrading to AM4 isn't appealing anymore since I already face limited expansion options. As long as I can access all the slots when needed, size isn't a big issue. 5.0 in the main PCIe lane is what really matters for future compatibility, but that's about it.

I don't need to stress too much about Gen 5. Even a 5090 won't include it, and the RTX 4090 should work fine on Gen 3 speeds with minimal performance drop. The Pro RS is a solid ATX board offering three slots—two 16x and one M.2 slot. You can check out the ASUS TUF B650-PLUS here: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/zFzh...650-pro-rs, or the 9RV2FT ASUS gaming board at https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/9rV2...-b650-plus. Current notable options are listed there.

The TUF is definitely something too, though it has a bit of a gap compared to USB. I won’t rule it out entirely—others are still on the list. I think I’ll focus more on motherboards. Thanks for the suggestions already!

Yes, it seems like you're questioning whether six is sufficient. Let me know how I can assist!
