I've got a bit of confusion about my build. My specs are: Ryzen 5 3600, Corsair 16GB RAM at 3000MHz (probably), Asus Strix B450-F gaming motherboard with a 550W PSU, Asus dual OC, RTX 2060 graphics, 6GB Kingston SSD, 120GB Samsung SSD, and a 500GB WD 1TB HDD. First of all, sorry for the unclear details—I don’t remember the exact components I used when I assembled this PC in late 2019. Yesterday night, while playing Red Dead Online with way too many tabs open, it shut down abruptly. I thought it overheated because it got very hot at the back of the case. Maybe that was it? But I’m impatient; I suspect ADHD might be involved.
I tried turning it on and nothing happened. The fans didn’t spin, though the RGB lights on the motherboard still lit up. So I decided to let it cool down before trying again. Half an hour later, it booted up. This morning I repeated the process while studying, but it shut off once more. It wouldn’t power on at all, except for the RGB lights staying on. I turned it off and then back on, and the fans spun a bit, but nothing else.
I noticed dust was present, but not enough to cause major issues. I cleaned it out, tried again, and the fans moved slightly. Still no resolution. I’ve been trying things like pressing the power button nonstop, moving the GPU, changing fan pins, reseating the CMOS battery, and even using different slots for RAM. Clearing the CMOS with a jumper worked—PC started booting. But sometimes it would flash yellow, red, or yellow again, which confused me about what it meant.
The MOBO lights blinked, but I wasn’t sure if that was RAM or CPU-related. Eventually, after moving everything around and resetting the system, I couldn’t get it to POST consistently. I’m planning to replace the CMOS battery to eliminate any doubt, but I’m still unsure what’s causing the problem. Have others experienced this issue?
