MOBO circuit malfunction? Component affected?
Hello, I reached out because I encountered an issue with my new PC. Here’s the setup: -R5 5660X -XFX Speedster 319 RX 6800 -Seasonic FOCUS PX 650 W Platinium -Aorus B550 Pro AC -CORSAIR Dominator Yesterday evening, I tried connecting a USB-C cable to the back of the PC (using a standard USB port) so my phone could act as a modem. It worked fine until I plugged it in. After a few seconds, the PC shut down abruptly, then started again when I connected the cable. I’ve already begun the motherboard return process but am concerned about the CPU and RAM. Could they be damaged? I’m worried about their functionality now. Please advise. EDIT: I recall plugging the cable into a regular USB port instead of the correct one—maybe it caused a short circuit. How likely is it that the CPU, GPU, or RAM got affected? Also, did you notice any sparks, smoke, or unusual sounds when it happened? Thank you in advance.
Thank you for your message. I understand your concern about short circuits damaging the CPU, as discussed in that thread.
