Laptop: Asus Q550LF When playing games, my CPU running at 2.80 GHz tends to slow down periodically during high-performance mode, especially while playing GTA V and Minecraft. I’m not sure this happens with other titles since I don’t play much. It might be called "lag spikes," but it’s more about how Windows and Intel drivers manage the CPU rather than a hardware fault. To fix it, I often have to restart my laptop in different power settings, which affects power-saving features. I restored the default power plans hoping something was misconfigured, but that didn’t help. I’m frustrated because I rely on this device for travel and can’t always use it with full gaming power options. The task manager numbers I see are set by the Asus Power4gear driver, which caused this issue instead of slowing the CPU as much as 0.77 GHz. The attached photos show my CPU speeds during lag events and normal operation. My PC temperature stays around 70°C, which is typical for gaming laptops. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I would test Prime95 on the 'Blend' mode for an hour while keeping an eye on CPU frequency and temperature. If your processor reduces its speed shortly after starting, it could mean the laptop is drawing more power than intended and thus lowering its clock speed. Most laptops can temporarily exceed their power limits before returning to normal, but some may throttle cooling instead of pushing higher power.
