I own a high-end trident z royal (though it's quite expensive). I'm considering upgrading to a RAM module and originally planned for a 2x8 configuration, but I discovered a 2x16 option at a comparable price. Both options offer the same speed and latency, just different sizes. Could this work or should I stick with the 2x8?

You can combine 2x8 with 2x16, though be cautious—unstable behavior may occur if aggressive XMP settings are applied right away.

I attempted to install a 1 GB with a 2 GB DDR3 SODIMM in my laptop, and it functions properly so far. However, I’m uncertain if using such large RAM modules together is safe or reliable.

Would it hold steady without executing XMP?

The issue isn't due to applying XMP, but rather the high frequency. You can turn on XMP and check the maximum frequency while keeping the system stable.

It depends on your needs—would the effort be worthwhile or is 32GB enough for you?

I would agree, there aren't many values to check.

You can combine them—I have a 4GB and an 8GB stick, and it functions properly.
