You're considering upgrading from a 3600MHz CL16 to a CL18 RAM. The CL18 is compatible with your current system, so you should be able to use it without issues. Just ensure the new RAM matches your motherboard's specifications and consider the price difference between the two models.

It might not function immediately. This could lead to issues if XMP/DOCP is activated. You'll need to adjust them manually to reach the advertised speed. Even within the same model, if Corsair modified the chips during a revision, compatibility isn't guaranteed. When XMP/DOCP is enabled, older units may not perform well. It's best to either discard your old unit or keep it as a backup and purchase a 32GB kit.

Thanks for your response. I'll try it out and let you know how it goes. Just feels unnecessary spending more than necessary!

Based on my experience with RAM mixing, it generally works well most of the time, though it fails occasionally. I've tried it several times for others, and it only doesn't succeed about once in ten attempts. As mentioned earlier, it automatically switches to the slower RAM, which makes the process much simpler than replacing your entire setup.
