Hey there, just checking in for some guidance. I have two RAM kits—one 2x8GB at 2666MHz and another 2x4GB at 3000MHz. I’m curious if I can turn on XMP and use dual-channel by installing both on the same board, like the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max. I know the slower RAM will limit performance unless I tweak the BIOS settings. Any advice would be great!

Activating XMP for that combination might not let all the RAM function properly and could cause a boot failure. For boosting performance on the 2x 8GB 2666Mhz system, a 2x 16GB (or even 2x 8GB) 3000Mhz model would have been a more suitable upgrade. EDIT: Did you mean those two models are what you currently own, or is this a recent purchase? Edited November 14, 2020 by Eighjan

I have a 2x4GB 3000MHz kit lying around. A friend upgraded his setup and gave it to me. If it only runs at 2666MHz, I’m fine with that. I just need it to work smoothly and use all the RAM without any issues.
