Last night I was listening to a war thunder soundtrack while it rained outside. I wasn’t sure how near the storm was until I stopped playing and switched to watching something else. I removed my headphones for a moment and a bolt of lightning hit close by. The power flickered off for a short time before returning. During the strike, there was a faint spark from my computer, but it didn’t appear visible. The machine stayed on because the power button light stayed lit, though it was off. Around 4 a.m., I decided to turn it off and go to sleep. The next morning I turned it back on, and everything seemed normal. Until I opened my internet browser and realized there was no connection. It looked like some files were corrupted or missing. After restarting, a warning appeared saying “CLiP device license not found.” Further checking in Device Manager showed three issues: a Bluetooth device, an RAS async adapter, and a Realtek PCIe GbE controller—likely affecting the Ethernet link. Since I don’t have a Wi-Fi antenna, Ethernet was my only choice. I can’t update or reinstall anything. I reached out to Microsoft support, but they suggested running commands in the command prompt without success. They were the most helpful resource I found. I’m hoping someone can assist me.
An alternative option might assist in the short run. Ethernet to USB adapter available on Amazon.
