My sister is back for the holidays, and he’s letting me handle her computer. All data has been saved. The idea is to perform a full reset of Windows 10, but since we moved from version 8.1 to W10 Anniversary and didn’t make a factory image, there’s nothing to revert to. Also, no restore points exist since then. When I attempt a factory reset—whether wiping everything or just removing non-windows apps—I always encounter issues. After searching, I tried Microsoft’s “Refresh Windows Install,” but it also failed (I restarted the device between attempts). I’ve tried other methods too, but my last option is downloading the OS from another machine and installing it via USB. Is there anything else I should consider?

Download the Windows 10 ISO file directly. Prepare the storage device and perform a clean installation. This ensures all outdated components—such as extra drivers, files, clutter, or potential malware—are removed, allowing Windows to operate smoothly.
