You managed to install Linux Mint, but there are a couple of issues. First, when adjusting the display resolution, you're limited to 2560 pixels max, which isn't ideal for 4K. The NVIDIA drivers seem to be outdated, around 390.x series. This is reportedly a known problem with Linux Mint. It feels sluggish and unresponsive, especially when dragging windows, as if VSync is disabled. You're finding it frustrating and are considering giving up. Someone could suggest a more stable distro that avoids these performance issues and screen jitter. I’d appreciate any advice on a better option that won’t cause such problems.
He’s definitely on Windows 10, really enjoys it, but he just wants to experiment with the system. There’s no real match between Windows 10 and any Linux distribution—Windows feels so intuitive with its clean interface, while Linux can be more restrictive. He’ll only run it occasionally for fun. That’s why he set up Oracle VM so he could play around without comparison. Still, he acknowledges Windows 10 is a big deal, especially coming from his Novell days. He just wants to enjoy something enjoyable—maybe 30 minutes a day that’s better than Windows.
But this Windows update feels terrible because of all the tearing, slowness, and mess it causes. It’s really complicated to fix. I’m looking for a distribution where dragging the Windows move would be smooth, like in WinBlows. Any suggestions on a distro I could try? Thanks again, PL!
It seems you're talking about Windows still being better in many areas, even though you might not admit it. You could be facing some problems because it's running inside a VM. Although I'm not very familiar with Linux, I'm sure there are people here who can help. Good luck! ^^
Thanks for the feedback. I’m just trying to have fun when I’m bored and dive into some intense stuff. The start menu app you mentioned is called OpenShell and used to be known as Classic Start. I really needed it because the built-in Windows 7 version feels pretty outdated.
Chose Ubuntu Studio for a bit of fun, but it won’t beat Uncle Billy’s system.
