I recently connected a dubious thumb drive from a friend to my Acer N20C5 Laptop. Now, whenever I connect my mouse, it doesn’t immediately identify the device. When I reinsert it, it functions properly until I power off the computer and restart it again. A smart scan with Avast found no threats, though it detected a Torrent-infected file from that drive when I plugged it in. Should I be concerned? What should I do?

Perform a comprehensive Windows security scan and also use MalwareBytes for additional protection. Avoid connecting suspicious USB drives to your devices. Visit a public library and donate an item from there! (This is clearly humoristic.)

It might be tough to spot the trojan, so consider using a backup or restoring the system to a previous state. Drivers usually save restore points before you install new software. If the restore date is far back, you could lose some information.

The file wasn't found on the drive, so it's unclear if the USB connection was involved. I tried a different mouse and it resolved the issue quickly. I'll give your fix a try.

The document refers to a specific file whose nature is often mistaken for malicious. It highlights situations where legitimate systems, like USB drives, can trigger false alarms due to antivirus software detecting non-existent threats.
