This issue seems related to the motherboard or BIOS configuration. Since the RAM is located on the same level, it’s unlikely to be the main cause. Rarely does CPU failure occur, though it can happen. Usually the problem lies with the BIOS, but sometimes other factors like hard drives are involved. It often feels frustrating, but swapping out identical parts—like RAM or a motherboard—can help avoid compatibility issues. If you’ve changed components consistently, you should spot the real problem more easily.
Also, unusual behavior can stem from hardware faults, so it’s not always clear what’s causing it. Better error messages would be helpful, but currently the system still gives vague feedback. Regarding chipset drivers, have you updated them recently?
I experienced numerous WHEA mistakes back then... *always* blaming my GPU (with vendor details) but it turns out for every GPU it was just the BIOS. Lol... So actually nothing was faulty except the BIOS, which MSI resolved in just three years... This explains why I’d recommend starting with the motherboard or RAM if you’re like me—most likely a BIOS problem, no doubt.
maybe "maybe irrelevant" wasn't the best choice. I just feel it won’t do much beyond confirming a few components are probably okay... that’s positive, but it doesn’t solve the problem. The real culprits seem to be the motherboard and the RAM—like the Corsair Vengeance. That said, swapping out the CPU shouldn’t cause any issues, based on my impression. Intel QA isn’t doing well, while Ryzens appear more reliable in production.
Probably the only way you can go from here! This one is a total nightmare, I don't envy you. As @Mark Kaine pointed out, the BIOS might be the culprit but there's feck all you can do about it unless you can return the board for a refund a go for a different manufacturer. Very hit and miss though, I've never had a problem with MSI..... touch wood! The only thing left in my toolbox would be to prep a Ubuntu install USB stick and boot into Linux. Not really sure where you would go from there but it would be interesting to see if Linux installed without issue and ran as expected....
