Minimal GPU demand with strong CPU performance
Minimal GPU demand with strong CPU performance
Budget around $200 or a bit more, but not too much since I need a fresh motherboard. I want zero bottleneck for 1080p gaming.
A Ryzen 5700X is just around the corner, close to the upper limit of your CPU budget. You might also consider a 12400 and B series motherboard to reduce expenses. However, with the 5700X you can activate PBO and/or overclock, which isn't possible with the 12400 because it's a fixed multiplier.
Looking for an affordable motherboard that still delivers solid performance for the 5700X. It should be a decent budget option and also compatible with future upgrades if you ever want a stronger AMD CPU.
My 9700F and 1650 work fine. 9700 stays under 40% during games because my GPU isn’t strong enough—I only play Minecraft and CSGO which use over 50%. I run at 1080P, not 1440p. That’s the proof you don’t need a CPU upgrade. The game is RDR2 with mixed settings and a lot of particles from BluuFr.
This B550 motherboard is a top choice. Amazon lists the Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II with AMD AM4 (3rd Gen Ryzen) features. It supports PCIe 4.0, WiFi 6E, 2.5Gb LAN, BIOS Flashback, HDMI 2.1, addressable Gen 2 RGB header, and Aura Sync. Other options are available.
This option might be viable or the MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS AM4 ATX AMD board from Newegg. The Gigabyte B550 GAMING X V2 AM4 ATX board is also available on Newegg.
